Previous Terms of Service
September 23, 2026 (document revision 2026-09-23-r1). Current terms
This revision describes more precisely what is charged when you change plans, what happens when a payment fails, and what deleting your account does. For accounts that already exist when this revision is published, revisions to contractual rights in this version take effect on October 20, 2026. Until then, the September 12, 2026 terms apply (their own changes take effect on September 26, 2026 for accounts that existed before September 12; before that, the September 11, 2026 terms apply to those accounts). This version applies immediately to new accounts. These revisions do not change your subscription price or included allowance.
The agreement
Wordtandem is an independent project operated by Michael Cantrell. These terms apply when you use the Wordtandem website, web
app, desktop or mobile app, and related services.
By using Wordtandem or creating an account, you agree to these terms. If
you accept them for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to
bind that organization. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Who can use Wordtandem
You need to be at least 13 to use Wordtandem, and at least 18 to buy a
paid plan. If you are under 18, you may use the free plan only with permission
from a parent or guardian and any consent required by the law where you live.
Your account
Keep your password secure and don't share your account. You're responsible
for activity that happens under it. Tell us promptly if you think it's been
compromised.
One sign-in belongs to one person. If several people in an organization use
Wordtandem, each person needs their own sign-in unless we agree to a different
arrangement in writing.
Plans, minutes and billing
Paid plans include a monthly allowance of cloud voice-tracking minutes. The
allowance resets at the start of each calendar month in UTC and doesn't roll
over.
Running out of minutes suspends cloud voice tracking for the rest of that
month. Where your browser supports Basic voice recognition, Wordtandem switches to it automatically when cloud minutes run out or cloud access is denied. Basic voice recognition has no minute limit.
Subscriptions renew automatically. When you subscribe, you're agreeing to
recurring charges at the price and interval shown at checkout — monthly plans
bill every month, annual plans every year — until you cancel. We'll charge the
payment method you gave us.
If a payment fails or your bank asks you to confirm it, your account shows a
payment problem and cloud voice tracking is unavailable until the payment is
completed or you update your payment method. Where your browser supports it,
Basic voice recognition keeps working. Our payment processor may retry the
charge; if the payment stays unpaid, the subscription can end and your account
returns to the free plan.
You can cancel any time: Manage billing on your account page opens our
payment processor's billing portal. Your plan stays active until the end of the
period you've already paid for, then reverts to the free plan. Until then you
can resume the subscription from your account page. You keep your scripts.
Uninstalling the app or simply stopping use does not cancel a subscription.
Contact support if you cannot access the cancellation controls.
Prices can change. If a price changes, we'll tell you before your next
renewal so you can cancel first if you'd rather.
Prices are in US dollars and don't include any tax that might apply where
you live.
Refunds
If something goes wrong, email
support@wordtandem.com and
we'll sort it out.
If it's your first payment and Wordtandem isn't for you, tell us within
14 days and we'll refund it, no questions asked.
Beyond that: we don't give refunds for partial periods. If you cancel
halfway through a month, you keep access until the period ends rather than
getting money back for the rest of it.
Moving to a plan with a larger allowance takes effect, and is charged,
immediately. If your billing interval stays the same, the charge is the new
plan's price for the rest of your current billing period, less a credit for the
unused time on your current plan. If the change also moves between monthly and
yearly billing, the charge is the new plan's full price for a new billing period
starting that day, less a credit for the unused time on your current plan, and
your renewal date moves to that day. Before you confirm, we show the amount due
now. If we cannot calculate it exactly in advance, for example because tax, a
discount or existing account credit applies, it is labelled as an estimate and
the invoice shows the final amount. If the
credit is larger than the charge, the difference stays as credit on your billing
account for future invoices; it is not paid out automatically.
Moving to a plan with a smaller allowance, or switching the same plan between
monthly and yearly billing, is scheduled for the end of the current paid period.
Nothing is charged when you schedule it, and it does not create an immediate
refund or credit. Changing your plan also withdraws a scheduled cancellation.
Your confirmation screen identifies when the change takes effect.
These are our commercial refund terms, in addition to any rights you have by
law. They do not limit a statutory cooling-off or withdrawal right, or remedies
for faulty, misdescribed or non-conforming digital content or services. Where
such rights apply, contact support to exercise them. Starting to use Wordtandem
does not by itself waive a statutory withdrawal right.
Your content
Your scripts and recordings remain yours. We do not claim ownership of your content.
If you choose to sync scripts, you give us permission to store and copy them
between your devices. VoiceFollow Pro also sends a limited list of distinctive
names and terms from the active script to our speech provider so it can
recognize them accurately. This permission is only for operating Wordtandem
for you, and it ends when you delete the content or your account. We don't use
your content to train models.
Video recordings stay on your device. Wordtandem does not provide cloud video
storage or backup. You can preview, download, rename and delete recordings in
the local library. Storage capacity and playback depend on your device and
its format support. Keep independent copies of important recordings before
clearing browser or app data. Account deletion does not erase local recordings
or files you exported.
You're responsible for what you upload. Don't upload anything you don't
have the right to use.
Recording and external cameras
You are responsible for having the permissions and consents required to
record other people, their voices, locations and material. Use recording and
camera controls only with devices and systems you are authorized to operate.
Recording laws vary by location and situation.
CamBridge camera controls are available in the desktop app and run locally; they are not available in the browser prompter. You can configure supported cameras or connect to another camera-control server.
Camera support depends on model, firmware, connection and any required camera SDK runtime. Recording commands and monitoring depend on that server, the camera, network,
permissions and available storage. A command being sent is not confirmation
that a camera is recording; check the confirmed camera status. Recordings made
on an external camera remain on its storage. CamBridge monitoring previews are
not recordings and are not saved to the Wordtandem library. Make a short test
recording and check picture, sound and the saved file before an important take.
Software and third-party services
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive right to use Wordtandem under these
terms while your access is active. The software, design and Wordtandem branding
remain ours or our licensors'. This does not limit your ownership of your
content or rights granted by an applicable open-source license. Third-party
components and services remain subject to their applicable terms and licenses.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Wordtandem infringes your copyright, email
support@wordtandem.com with
enough detail to identify the work and where it appears. We'll look into it
and remove content where the complaint is valid. We may close accounts that
infringe repeatedly.
Acceptable use
Don't use Wordtandem unlawfully. Don't try to break it, overload it, or
reverse engineer it except where the law expressly allows that right. Don't
resell access. Don't use it to harass anyone or to produce material that's
illegal where you are.
The service will change
We add features, change them, and sometimes remove them. If we remove
something you're relying on and it materially affects a paid plan, we'll give
you notice and you can cancel. This does not reduce any right to a refund,
price reduction or other remedy under applicable consumer law.
Availability
We aim to keep Wordtandem running, but we don't promise it will always be
available or error-free. Parts of it depend on services we don't control,
including our speech provider and our hosting.
Cloud voice tracking needs an internet connection. Basic voice recognition
depends on your browser and device, and may also send audio to the browser
vendor's servers or require an internet connection. Browser support varies.
No warranty
Wordtandem is provided "as is." We don't promise it will meet every
requirement, work uninterrupted, or be free of errors — and to the extent the
law allows, we're not making any implied warranties beyond what's written
here.
Some places don't allow that kind of disclaimer, in which case it doesn't
apply to you.
Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude liability for indirect
or consequential losses, including lost business profits. This exclusion does
not remove a consumer's right to recover losses for which we are responsible
under mandatory law.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability arising from
the Services is limited to the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid us in
the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
These limits do not apply to fraud, intentional misconduct, death or personal
injury caused by negligence, or any liability, consumer guarantee or statutory
remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Practical version: back up recordings that matter to you. Don't rely on a
single tool for something you can't repeat.
Ending your account
You can delete your account any time from your account settings. Doing that
cancels any paid subscription immediately, rather than at the end of the period,
and does not by itself refund the unused part of that period (see Refunds). It
removes your account, synced scripts and device sign-ins from the active account
database. Some billing and administrative records are kept, as the
Privacy Policy describes. If billing cancellation fails,
deletion is stopped so you do not lose access to an account that is still being
billed. Export content you want to keep first. Local files and copies on other
devices are not remotely erased.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, doesn't pay, or
is being used in a way that puts the service or other people at risk. Where
it's reasonable to do so, we'll tell you first.
If we disagree
Email support@wordtandem.com
if you would like us to try to resolve the issue. This does not prevent you
from exercising legal rights or meeting a legal deadline. Most things get sorted that way, and we'd rather fix a problem than
argue about one.
If that doesn't work, these terms are governed by the laws of the State of
North Carolina, and any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in
North Carolina, except where mandatory law gives you a different right. If you
are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections under
the laws of your usual residence or your right to bring proceedings in a court
available to you under those laws.
Either of us can still bring a claim in small claims court.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights,
we'll tell you before it takes effect — by email or in the app — and the date
at the top will change. If you do not agree to the new terms, you must stop
using Wordtandem and cancel any paid subscription before they take effect.
The rest
These terms, together with the
Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us.
If part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
You can't transfer your account to someone else without our agreement. We
may transfer these terms if the business is sold, and we'd tell you if that
happened.
Not enforcing something once doesn't mean we've given up the right to
enforce it later.
